December in kerala...

Christmas

The festival of universal love is here once again. Christmas is more than a festival. It is a solemn occasion to remember Jesus, his life and ultimate sacrifice and his message of compassion and brotherhood. Like elsewhere in the world, X’mas stars, trees, cribs and greeting cards form an integral part of the Christmas celebrations in Kerala, with even non-Christians participating joyously. On Christmas Eve and Christmas morning special masses are conducted in all churches, carols are sung by groups of youngsters and church choirs who visit every house.

A weeklong holiday for schools and colleges in the State adds to the holiday mood and festive merriment. Regardless of caste and creed, Keralites celebrate Christmas with great pomp and merry making. It is an occasion for family reunion, feast and picnics. Hindu and Muslim friends are invited to Christian homes to partake in the Christmas feast. Streets will get dotted with a variety of Christmas markets and exhibitions.
